George Goring on the mend

George Goring, managing director of London's Goring hotel, is recovering at home after being diagnosed with bronchial pneumonia.

He had to cut short a trip to France because of the illness.

Goring, 63, has suffered from poor health for the past year. It is thought that the pneumonia was precipitated by the worsening of an infection in his left eye.

His doctor sent him home to rest last Monday (13 August). The following day, he wrote a letter to Caterer in which he said that he was "feeling like death". He has begun to feel a little better since then.

Goring started working at the 74-bedroom hotel in Belgravia in 1962. His grandfather opened the hotel in March 1910, and his son Jeremy will take over in management when he retires.
