Government offers relief

The Government has announced its first package of short-term measures to help rural businesses hit by a foot-and-mouth epidemic.

Those with a rateable value of up to £12,000 could see their business rates reduced by up to £1,290 for three months, while those with a higher rating can apply for local authority hardship relief.

Firms planning to appeal against business rate valuations will have an extra three months to make the appeal.
