Grand Prix chefs limber up for ScotHot

A hightlight of this year's ScotHot show at the SECC, Glasgow, will be the Knorr World Culinary Grand Prix. The four-yearly competition is one of only six organised by the World Association of Cooks Societies (WACS), and the only one held in the UK.

This year's competition will feature twelve teams of six from around the world, who will each cook a three-course meal for 85 covers. Holders Canada will defend their title against teams from, among others, Scotland, Israel, Germany, Portugal and Wales.

Welsh team manager Graham Tinsley, co-owner of the Castle Hotel, Conwy, said that all of his team had gained their places by winning gold medals and best in class at this year's Welsh International Salon Culinaire in Llandudno.

Spectators will be able to watch the teams in action through viewing panels, as well as sampling the dishes in the Restaurant of Nations. Places can be booked by calling 0131 556 5152.

Elsewhere at the event, ten chefs will be competing for the title Scottish Chef of the Year, which brings a £2,500 prize. Each chef will prepare and serve a four-course meal on the morning of Tuesday 26 April.
