Guthrie Castle wedding planner under investigation

Police are investigating allegations of embezzlement against a former member of staff at Guthrie Castle wedding venue in Angus, Scotland.

A man has allegedly double-booked weddings at the site and fled abroad with the deposits, which he had paid into a private account, after wiping the hotel's computer systems. Reports say the hotel has no record of some bookings, and the theft is believed to amount to hundreds of thousands of pounds.

A staff member at Guthrie Castle confirmed investigations are taking place but declined to comment further.

The castle website now reads: "Anyone who has booked for a wedding or event with Guthrie Castle. Kindly contact us at 01241 828691."

Police Scotland said it is aware of the matter and carrying out enquiries.

The 15th century castle is available as an exclusive use venue, with a 200-seat pavilion, 22 bedrooms and a private 9-hole golf course.
