  • John Jarvis, chairman of Jarvis Hotels, was appointed Commander of the Royal Victorian Order for his services to the Prince's Trust in the New Year Honours.

  • Gordon Ramsay won a third Michelin star in January for his Chelsea restaurant.

  • Eric Crouillère-Chavot, at the Capital hotel in London, and John Burton-Race, at the Landmark hotel in London, both picked up their second Michelin stars.

  • Zaika and Tamarind became the first two Indian restaurants in London to win a Michelin star, while the Stagg Inn in Titley, Herefordshire, became the first pub in Britain to be awarded a star.

  • July marked the presentation of this year's 16 Caterer & Hotelkeeper Awards (Cateys). Among the winners were chef Michael Caines, and Ian Neill of Japanese noodle bar chain Wagamama.
