Historic "haunted" pub up for sale days before Halloween
A historic pub dubbed "the UK's most haunted" is up for sale just days before Halloween.
The Four Crosses Pub, in Cannock, Staffordshire, is on the market with Colliers International at an asking price of £400,000, comprising a coaching inn and manor house.
With a 400-year-old history, it is known for its mysterious happenings, including several tragic deaths, unexplained footsteps, glasses smashing without warning and the reported apparition of a young girl.
The Yesterday television channel even featured it on Michaela Strachan's Great British Ghosts programme last year.
This is not the first supposedly "haunted" property sold by this estate agent: it also advised on The Dalhousie Castle Hotel, Midlothian; Fernie Castle in Fife; and the Kincraig Castle Hotel in Ross and Cromarty, all of which are suspected as sites of paranormal activity.
Windsor's Oakley Court, used in cult film The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and the Ellangowan Hotel in Dumfries and Galloway, used in the 1973 film The Wicker Man, have also been marketed by the firm.
Alistair Letham, hotels director at Colliers International, explained why many (although clearly, not all) haunted properties seem to cluster around the "scary" highlands.
He said: "Scotland's heritage and mystic atmosphere are the backdrop to many famous tragedies; and with that follows ghosts' stories and tales of the supernatural. Quite often a good ghost story can be a visitor attraction whether it's Halloween or not.
"Bette Temming, new owner of the Flodigarry Country House Hotel on the Isle of Skye, even claims to have met the hotels resident ghosts, a maid and policeman, who she tells me are very friendly."
