The scope for siting ATM-type cash dispensing machines in pubs was showcased by Hanco ATM Systems, who were recently contracted to supply machines to the Laurel Pub Company. Following a five month trial of three machines, Laurel is initially purchasing 60 machines for use in a variety of locations from community pubs to Hog's Head and CASA bars, plus rural locations where the machines are considered a valuable additional facility for the local community.

According to the company's research, cash machines can help drive up pub profits by as much as 17 per cent. Machines have a footprint of under 3 sq.ft. and only require a power socket and BT phoneline.
