Hot vending with a difference

MOST hot food vending machines with built-in cooking rely on either a microwave or frying vat, but the Snackstation is built around an inherently similar idea: two heated grill plates which come together to heat and toast sandwich-style products.

The food can be made up fresh each day by on-site catering staff or delivered to order, with a wide variety of fillings possible inside standard sliced bread.

The food needs to be placed in self-sealing silicone bags for storage, heating and dispensing. The packed items are held refrigerated in twin stainless steel carousels within the machine.

Capacity is 140 packs and shelf life is up to five days. Products stay in the silicone bags during grilling, which takes about one minute. The product is then dropped to the dispense point where the customer removes it.

The machine is designed for quick, straightforward loading with an entire filling taking around ten minutes.

Use of twin carousels means that two different items can be vended simultaneously. Machines are priced at between £9,000 and £10,000. The bags cost about 3p each and can be printed with branding and other information.
