Hotelier jailed for VAT fraud

A Scottish hotelier has been jailed for 12 months today after evading more than £120,000 in VAT payments.

Customs investigators found that Lesley Kay Dykes, 49, of Aberdour, Fife , had evaded paying VAT on takings for a hotel business she ran near Inverness.

She was sentenced at Inverness Sheriff Court today after pleading guilty to evading £121,077 in VAT between March 1993 and October 1998 the hotel.

A confiscation order for the amount has now been issued.

Dykes pleaded guilty to the charge late last month.
