Hutong remains closed following a kitchen fire at the Shard

Hutong, the Chinese restaurant on the 33rd floor of the Shard in London, remains closed following a fire in its kitchen on Tuesday (4 August) morning.

The restaurant hopes to reopen soon and has been contacting customers with reservations to keep them updated.

A blaze started in the kitchen's oven, which resulted in 100 people being evacuated from restaurants on the 31st, 32nd and 33rd floors.

There were no injuries and the fire was quickly extinguished by the building's sprinkler system, however firefighters still attended the scene as per standard procedure. A spokesperson for the Shard confirmed the rest of the building was unaffected.

A spokesperson for Hutong said: "Following the incident on Tuesday morning, Hutong remains closed although we hope to be open again very soon."

The restaurant's Twitter account said: "We remain closed; guests with bookings have been contacted and updates will be given here when available. Thank you for your understanding."

Diners and staff from the restaurants were led down the stairs of London's tallest skyscraper following the incident and an investigation was launched to determine the cause of the fire.

Seven fire engines and around 35 firefighters attended.
