Ian Payne visits all 333 Stonegate pubs

Stonegate chairman Ian Payne has completed his quest of visiting all 333 Stonegate pubs, after he called on licensee Jimmy Smith at the Two Brewers in Clapham.

The company said Payne has always believed in visiting every business from his time when he was managing director at Bass Lease Company through to his tenure at Town & City Group.

The final visit came just after the announcement that Stonegate Pub Company merged with Town & City Group, creating a 560-strong pub group. Payne has already visited the T&C sites from his time as chairman.

He said: "I'm truly passionate about our pubs and our people and it's important to me to take time to visit and understand our pubs and how they operate in their local markets. Most importantly, it gives me the opportunity to meet our teams and acknowledge and recognise the people that make our business the success that it is.

"The final visit to The Two Brewers was the jewel in the crown and followed a phenomenal weekend's trading where they took more in one day than most pubs take in a month. It was great to meet Jimmy and the team so I could celebrate their success with them. "
