Sutcliffe success

Sutcliffe Catering has been awarded an 11-year catering contract at the new British Library in St Pancras, London. Sutcliffe was involved in a competitive tender under the Private Finance Initiative to secure the contract, which is potentially worth £1.3m per annum.

Global service

Property consultant Knight Frank has formed a partnership with US hotel consultant Interbank Brener and Knight Frank Expotel in Sydney to set up a global hotel buying and selling service called Knight Frank Access.

Top pay for Thomas

Whitbread chief executive David Thomas (pictured) received a basic salary of £360,604 during 1997/98, according to the company's newly released annual report and accounts.

Thomas, who is 54, also received performance-related payments totalling £127,500 and taxable benefits of £10,370.

Food Service Award

The Savoy Educational Trust is inviting entries for its 1998 FoodService Award, aimed at under-25s who wish to make a career in food and wine service. The closing date for entries is 21 August.
