In-store eateries keep pace with sales

The value of the in-store catering market is rising almost as fast as overall retail sales, claims a new report from retail consultancy Corporate Intelligence on Retailing.

In-store Catering in the UK predicts the market is set to exceed £1b by 1999. At the end of 1995 it was estimated to be worth £890m.

This figure for total market size is similar to that provided by market researchers at Mintel, who quoted £830m for 1995 in the report In-Store Catering.

But there seems to be some dispute about which sector of the market is dominant.

According to Mintel, department stores had a 55% share compared to 21% held by grocery multiples. Corporate Intelligence on Retailing, however, estimates department stores have a 35% share with supermarkets the biggest at 39%.

In-store Catering in the UK costs £195 from Corporate Intelligence on Retailing. Tel: 0171-696 9006.
