Isle of Man tourism dept launches training programme

Hospitality employees on the Isle of Man are to receive their own dedicated training programme launched by the island's Department of Tourism.

Manx Welcome is aimed at providing hospitality workers with the necessary skills to improve the overall level of service given to visitors to the island.

Tourism minister David Cretney said: "In the past the Isle of Man has been criticised for its service industry. By introducing the Manx Welcome we will put a stop to this by encouraging all employees within the hospitality industry to gain a recognised certified award and valuable knowledge."

The department also announced a tourism award scheme, which will be launched in January next year. Categories are likely to include best restaurant or café, best hotel and best visitor attraction.
