Landmark occasions

We have two great landmark events to bang on about this month. The first subject for celebration is the third editon of the Catering Update Equipment Guide which you can find published free with this issue. Compiled by our own equipment guru Bruce Whitehall, it contains everything you need to know if you are buying equipment and comes complete with our exclusive comprehensive listing of major brands in refrigeration, food preparation, cooking equipment, food service, storage and transport, beverage makers, icemakers, warewashers, hygiene and environmental equipment.

Specifications and prices are included too along with Bruce Whitehall's tips on what to look for when buying. There is also a brand finder index so you can marry up brands with their suppliers. On top of all that there is a suppliers directory, useful trade societies and contacts and a guide to Catering Equipment Distributor Association (CEDA) members who can help with premises design and aquisition of your equipment. The supplement is a handy A4 size for keeping on your desk for quick and easy reference.

The second landmark, in case you hadn't already guessed are the Catering Update Excellence in Food & Drink Awards in association with 3663 - First for Foodservice - which were judged in the first week of August with the awards lunch at the Landmark Hotel on 7 November.

The short-listed competitors will be anounced in the September issue of Catering Update and we look forward to meeting them at the awards lunch!

Shortlisted companies will be given the chance to purchase their places at the awards lunch first and then table sales will be open to all comers on a first come first served basis.

It will be a fantastic chance to celebrate our industry, have a lot of fun and be proud of what foodservice can dish up in terms of first class products.

There are a few delightful surprises in store for attendees including a mystery celebrity compere (witty, funny and one of the best after dinner speakers ever) preceded by a drinks reception where a top flight musical performer will entertain guests.

We are all extremely proud at Catering Update to have launched this fantastic awards scheme with 3663 as sponsor and are overwhelmed by the response to it. Mark my words! This event will grow into one of the biggest highlights of the catering year or my name is not Kathy Bowry!

For further details and information on this groundbreaking awards scheme for foodservice products please contact shiva.hobson@rbi.co.uk or tel: 020 8652 3094.

Don't forget the Hospitality Action Ball on friday 5 September. Tickets are selling like hot cakes so if you want to be there get touch with rachelle.breaden@rbi.co.uk or tel: 020 8652 8385 or you could miss out on a rare treat involving a virtual trip on the Orient Express and a host of other excitement!

Have a great August everybody.
