Linekers plans new chain of party bars in the UK
Linekers, the bar group launched by the brother of former England and Tottenham Hotspur footballer Gary Lineker, has unveiled plans for a new chain of bars in the UK.
The group, which operates 10 bars in Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands, currently has two outlets in the UK: in Blackpool and Waltham Abbey, Essex.
It is now planning to launch a "new generation of Linekers party bars" after taking over the leasehold of The Box bar and nightclub in Newcastle.
Located in the centre of the city, the bar and nightclub has an 820 capacity and has this week undergone a major internal refurbishment.
Peter Bowlt, trademark owner of the Linekers Bar brand in the UK, is now looking to rollout further bars on a franchise basis throughout the country.
Mark Worley, from property agent Christie & Co's Newcastle office, handled the deal on behalf of private owners.
"It is very encouraging to see a major brand in the leisure industry such as Linekers, open up in the city and further proof that Newcastle can lead the way when it comes to supporting licensed businesses," he said.
