Little Chef admits omelettes are bought-in

LITTLE Chef has admitted the omelettes described as "freshly cooked" on its menus are bought ready-made. The chain, owned by Granada, confessed after a customer at one of its restaurants queried whether the omelettes were made on the premises.

A spokesman for Little Chef said: "The safety risks associated with using shell eggs have been well publicised over recent years with the result that we purchase Little Chef omelettes ready-made using pasteurised eggs.

"This enables us to serve our omelettes with complete confidence with the assurance they are made from quality and safe ingredients."

Trading standards officers are investigating whether the word "fresh" should be dropped from the menus.
