Man jailed for hotel deception

A man who conned five hotel and guesthouse owners, leaving almost £2,000 in unpaid bills, was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment at Croydon Crown Court.

Jonathan Zimmerman-Clark, 48, of Phipps Bridge Road, Mitcham, south London, pleaded guilty to five charges of deception dating from December 1998.

The court heard how Zimmerman-Clark paid for his first or second night, then booked for more nights, and disappeared when it was time to pay.

The businesses left out of pocket were the Abbotsford in Blackpool, the Jessamine in Dartford, Kent, the Athlone guesthouse in Cliftonville, Kent, the Wessex Royale in Dorchester, and the Syndale Park in Faversham, Kent.
