Man who claims to have killed chef Claudia Lawrence jailed for man's murder
A man who claimed to police that he had killed missing chef Claudia Lawrence has been jailed for killing a man in a separate attack.
Daniel Oxley, from County Durham, has been found guilty of stabbing a man named Michael Outhwaite, in order to steal from him, just days after the pair had met, according to local newspaper website the Chronicle Live.
Oxley reportedly confessed to the murder of Outhwaite, and at the same time claimed that he had murdered Lawrence, although no connection between him and the missing chef has been revealed to date.
Prosecutors at Newcastle Crown Court condemned Oxley's claims about Lawrence as "attention seeking".
The 22-year-old Oxley will now be in jail for at least 23 years and nine months for the murder of Outhwaite, after he confessed to the stabbing. He was then described as having emptied Outhwaite's pockets and burgling his flat.
