Merseyside caterer dies singing karaoke in Egypt
Caterer Leah Rice has died while on holiday with her family in Egypt.
The owner of catering delivery firm Merseyside-based Leah Rice Lunches was staying at the Hilton Sharks hotel in the popular holiday resort of Sharm el-Sheikh when she collapsed of an apparent heart attack while singing karaoke at the Waves Pool Bar.
On the morning of her flight to Egypt, on 21 January, Rice posted a message to her customers on her Facebook page.
She wrote: "To all my lovely customers ….the lunches are taking a short break and will be back on the 31st of January ….well rested, invigorated and with new menus!!! See you soon xxx."
Anne Williams, a friend to Rice for 25 years, said: "Like so many people I will really, really miss her. Leah had worked so hard to get her life and her business to where they were and it's just such a shock."
A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokeswoman said: "We are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time for them."
