Millennium party gets Royal assent

THE Café Royal has climbed down over a decision to cancel a millennium celebration in its cellars after the client issued a writ for breach of contract.

London wine merchant Robert Rolls booked the rooms in 1987 but received a letter in March, returning his deposit, saying that the accommodation would no longer be available for New Year 1999.

But the historic London restaurant, which is owned by Forte, agreed to honour the booking when Rolls issued a writ for breach of contract last month.

A Forte spokeswoman confirmed that the booking had been reinstated but added: "The booking was never confirmed."

She declined to explainwhy the booking was cancelled in March.

Rolls said that he was unable to comment for legal reasons.
