New openings drive TRG 11% sales lift

The Restaurant Group (TRG), which owns the Frankie and Benny's and Chiquito brands, saw a total sales lift of 11% for the first 19 weeks of its financial year, driven by a spate of new openings.

That's the message chairman Alan Jackson is expected to report at the company's AGM, to be held later today.

TRG opened 15 new restaurants that are "trading well" and expected to deliver good returns. Between 36 and 43 news sites are planned for the year, with roughly half of which set to be Frankie and Benny's.

Like-for-like sales were ahead by 4% for the same period.

"The Group is trading in line with expectations, and we are on track to report a very satisfactory first half performance," the company said.

"The quality of our new site pipeline over the next three years is the strongest we have seen since before the onset of the financial crisis."
