Oriental group opens Gatwick venue

Oriental Restaurant Group, the London-based chain of upmarket eateries serving Far Eastern cuisine, is leasing a restaurant in Granada's Le Méridien hotel at Gatwick Airport.

The 80-seat restaurant is due to open this month and will be known as the Gatwick Oriental.

During the six months ending 30 September, the currently five-strong group raised pre-tax profits by 32% to £700,000. Sales were ahead by 13% at £3.69m.

The company said that, on a like-for-like basis, restaurant sales were up by 13%, with the average amount spent per customer up by 4%.
