Pall mall hearing ends

Judgment has been reserved after five days of the remedial hearing for 21 sacked Pall Mall contract catering and domestic staff (Caterer, 4 June, page 10). They have been fighting for reinstatement and compensation since they were sacked from London's Hillingdon Hospital in 1995 after rejecting proposed pay cuts.

Health union Unison expects a final verdict by early August. A major issue to be determined, said regional officer Pete Berry, is whether reinstatement is practical since Granada took over the Hillingdon health contract from Pall Mall owner the Davis Group in June 1997.
