Peach branches out into book publishing
Pub operator Peach plans to sell books through its 13 pub sites following the launch of its own publishing arm.
The north Oxfordshire-based Peach Publishing is the brainchild of Peach co-owner Jo Eames. Eames, who is married to Peach chairman and director Hamish Stoddart, has been juggling the work of wine buyer and designer for the group's pubs with writing for the past eight years.
The first book set to be published by Peach Publishing will be Eames's own novel, The Faithless Wife. It will be launched at the Fishes pub in North Hinksey in Oxford later this month.
"After receiving a number of glowing rejections from mainstream publishers, who praised my book before turning it down because - and I quote - "they couldn't quite put their finger on how to pitch it", Hamish, Lee Cash] and I took the decision to set up a small, independent publishing company that would mean I could sell my work direct," Eames said.
"We pride ourselves on only ever serving produce that we would be happy to be served ourselves, and the same now goes for our books, which are type-set in Cornwall on FSC-approved paper with a cover design created by us with our Banbury-based designers Toast, who work on all our pubs' branding and identity," she added.
The Faithless Wife, a love story set on Menorca during the Spanish Civil War, will go on sale direct to guests of Peach's pubs at £9.99. The company will donate £1 from the cover price to Cancer Research UK.
