Pelican boss prepares to fly the nest

Karen Jones, co-founder and managing director of the Pelican Group, is leaving the company to pursue a new venture in catering.

She will step down in September but will remain in a consultative capacity until next February.

"I'm planning to take three or four months off to consider my next move," she said. "It will be one of about three options within catering, but I can't say any more than that at the moment."

Jones describes her decision to leave the Pelican Group, which includes the Café Rouge, Dôme and Mamma Amalfi brands, as "a natural progression". It comes two years after the group was acquired by Whitbread for £133m.

"I wanted to make sure Pelican was strong and secure, with everyone settled and a good crossover of expertise," she said. "It's in good hands for the future."
