Sarah Porteous has been appointed banqueting manager of Claridge's hotel in London. She was formerly assistant director of operations at Disneyland Paris.

Richard Tait has taken over as general manager of the Wharf Brasserie in Teddington, Middlesex. He was general manager of Bertorelli's restaurant in Floral Street, London.

Alan Bowers is leaving the Petersham hotel in Richmond, Surrey, where he is general manager. He has not decided on his future career but is considering a variety of options including the tourism industry.

James Lerche and Gerry McGee, Macdonald Hotels' regional directors for Scotland and England, have joined the group's board of executive directors. They are jointly responsible for 40 hotels and leisure resorts.

Eileen Bicknell has been promoted to national sales manager of Andrew Weir Hotels, based in Dunstable, Bedfordshire. She was sales and marketing manager for the Pine Lodge hotel in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.

Moshi Perera has been appointed rooms division manager of the Lowndes Hyatt hotel in London. He joins from the capital's Grosvenor House hotel, where he was front of house manager, having worked his way up from receptionist.

Daniel Clifford has taken over as head chef at the Midsummer House restaurant in Cambridge. He was previously senior sous chef at the Rascasse restaurant in Leeds.

James P Evans has been appointed president and chief executive officer for consortium Best Western International. He was executive vice-president of operations at Doubletree Hotels, becoming senior vice-president of operations for Promus when the two companies merged.

Sandra Morris has joined Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts as sales manager. Based in London, she was regional sales manager with Marco Polo Hotels.

Marcia Bentley-Jones and Julia Murdoch are new consultants for recruitment firm Marshall Human Resources. With offices in Berkshire and London, the company specialises in management appointments for the hotel industry.

Matt Hanmer has been appointed corporate services manager for the Consort Hotels Group. Based in Birmingham, he is responsible for the Midlands and South-west regions. He was an account manager for cleaning company Jani-King GB.

Amanda Humble has been appointed sales manager for conference services company Next Event in Lincoln. She was previously deputy general manager at Down Hall country house hotel in Hertfordshire.

Stuart Moore, previously a general manager for JD Wetherspoon, has joined Fuller's retail division as operations controller for Fuller's managed inns, covering more than 100 pubs.

Maria Razumich has taken over as managing director of the New York Palace hotel. She was general manager of the hotel in mid-town Manhattan.
