Mr Johnson is currently hotel manager at the Savoy in London, where he reports to the director and general manager Herbert Striessnig.

He then joined the Savoy Group in London, where he worked as the assistant banqueting manager at Claridge's, before joining the Connaught as personnel and purchasing manager.

At Cliveden, he will report to managing director John Tham, who has also filled the role of general manager for the past two years. Mr Tham's attentions will now be divided between Cliveden and its new sister hotel, due to open in Prague in December 1996.
