McDEVITT to run personnel AT INTER-CONTINENTAL

GERRY McDevitt has been promoted to the post of regional director of human resources for Inter-Continental's five UK hotels.

Ms McDevitt was previously personnel and training manager at the group's Forum Hotel in London and held a similar role for more than two years at the Hotel Conrad, also in London.

Meanwhile, Jillian Thompson has taken on the new post of food purchasing director for Inter-Continental's London properties, with a brief to reduce the hotels' £5m food bill by £400,000 within a year. She will be based at the Hotel Inter-Continental on Hyde Park Corner, where she has been purchasing manager since 1987.

MANAGEMENT MOVES at De Vere

FRANCES Davies, has taken over as general manager of the De Vere Tillington Hall in Stafford, replacing Andrew Spink, who has moved to the De Vere Hotel, Swindon.

David Cook replaces her as general manager at De Vere's University Arms in Cambridge, and he in turn is replaced as general manager of the Pack Horse in Bolton, Lancashire, by Tim Brookes, deputy general manager of Mottram Hall Hotel in Cheshire.

MITTER acquires jubilee AGENCY

ALOIS Mitter has boughtrecruitment consultancy Jubilee Catering Agencyand its managerial division Higor Associates fromRoger Higgins and Michael O'Rourke.

Mr Higgins has retired, while Mr O'Rourke is to remain as a consultant. Mr Mitter has moved the company into new premises in London's Soho along withhis catering consultancy Matchlink.

All existing staff have remained with Jubilee, while Kathy Poole-Gleed has joined as general manager. Shepreviously worked with Mr Mitter at London Clubs International, where he was group executive chef until his redundancy in 1992.

resort appoints burningham

DEREK Burningham has been appointed company secretary at troubled Resort Hotels.

Mr Burningham previously spent 17 years with Forte, and was deputy group company secretary for eight years until being made redundant last November as part of the company's restructuring.

Peter Birnie to manager of key accounts and consultancy with AA Hotel Services, from hotel inspector with the organisation.

John Ryan to regional director of sales and marketing for Great Britain and Ireland at the Concorde Hotel Group, from European sales director with Radisson Edwardian Hotels.

Salvatore Calabrese to bar manager in the Lanesborough Hotel's Library Bar, from head barman at Duke's Hotel, also in London.

Bill Fraser of the Petty France Hotel, Dunkirk, Avon, has become chairman of the Cotswold Edge and Vale of Severn Tourist Area, a new tourism group set up to promote the Northavon district.

Andrew Tilley to director of marketing, Hyatt Carlton Tower, London, from a similar position at the Glasgow Hilton.

Jane Parritt, public relations manager at Orient-Express Hotels, has left to join Varakuta Public Relations which will now handle the group's PR and publicity in the UK.

Simon Dufty to general manager, the Atlantic Hotel, Jersey, from director of the island's Longueville Manor Hotel.

Tim Bristow has been promoted to assistant banqueting manager, Le Meridien hotel, London, from assistant manager of the hotel's Oak Room restaurant.

James Ramage to manager of corporate meetings and incentives at the Gloucester, London, from the hotel's corporate sales manager.

Hilary McHale to sales manager, Jarvis Penns Hall Hotel, Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, from sales and marketing manager, the Telford Moat House, Shropshire.

Joseph Lloyd to marketing manager, the Stage Hotel Group, from regional sales manager, Britannic Business Travel.

Jini Griffin and Olivia Hutton to sales managers, Hilton National Bracknell, Berkshire, from sales executives at Oakley Court Hotel, Windsor and Shepperton Moat House, Surrey, respectively.

Philippa Rylett to manager of the new Travel Inn near Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, from quality manager for Travel Inn at the Whitbread Group of Hotels head office in Luton.

Ken Ellis to head chef, East Sussex National Golf Club, near Uckfield, from the club's sous chef.

Clare Chipperfield to commercial sales manager, at London's New Barbican Hotel, from marketing executive with Expotel. Gisele Clowes joins the hotel as events sales manager from assistant food and beverage manager at the Royal Westminster Thistle, also in London.

Noel Emms to head chef, Dean Court Hotel, York,from a similar position at the Harlequin bistro, Skipton, North Yorkshire.

OBITUARY:

IAN MacPHERSON

IAN MacPherson, director and former chairman of catering suppliers Watson & Philip, died on 30 January.

Mr MacPherson joinedthe company as chief executive in 1988 and took on the role of chairman in 1989.
