Pupils from Shetland Island school to compete in FutureChef

Nearly 50 pupils from the Shetland Islands in Scotland will be competing in Springboard's annual FutureChef competition for the first time, thanks to financial contributions from Shetland Enterprise (SE).

SE, a division of Highlands and Islands Enterprise Network, is an organisation that encourages economic and social enterprise in the Shetlands.

Currently, the hospitality industry is not viewed as a viable career option in the area, and SE hopes that FutureChef, which has given 20,000 young people kitchen experience and aims to encourage cooking professionally, will help improve the industry's image.

FutureChef competitors must cook a hot meal for two, in one hour using a £3.50 ingredient budget.

Winners from four participating Shetland schools will enter a local final, then possibly progress to a regional and finally grand UK final, to be held in March 2007.
