Ramsay picks up Time Out awards
Gordon Ramsay has won two accolades in London's Time Out Eating and Drinking Awards 2002.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>
Ramsay at Claridge's won best new restaurant and the man himself won a special award for "outstanding achievement".
A Time Out spokesman said that Ramsay was "one of the best British chefs of his generation."
He added: "He really has grown and come of age in the last year."
Other winners included the Rockwell Bar at the Trafalgar Hilton Hotel, off Trafalgar Square, which won the Perrier best bar and La Trompette in Chiswick, west London, which won best local restaurant.
Carluccio's Caffe in St Christopher's Place, off Oxford Street, picked up the award for best family restaurant, while the Lots Road Pub and Dining Room in Chelsea won best gastropub.
Best Japanese restaurant went to Tsunami on Voltaire Road, Clapham, with best Turkish restaurant going to Sariyer Balik in Stoke Newington, north London, and best vegetarian restaurant going to Ram's in Harrow.
Hakkasan in Hanway Place, Soho, won the award for best-designed restaurant.
