Raymond Blanc's ‘all-time favourite' pub back on sale after deal falls through
An Oxfordshire pub described by Raymond Blanc as his all-time favourite is back on the market after a deal fell through at the eleventh hour.
The freehold for The Mason Arms near Witney in Oxfordshire is on the market for £700,000 after it was put up for sale by owner Gerry Stonhill. The 17th century former farmhouse has a thatched roof, space on the first floor for potential bedrooms, car park, gardens and several outbuildings, including the owner's cottage, which has an open fire and kitchenette.
Although the late Michael Winner branded it "tacky", the pub was highly rated by Marco Pierre White as well as Blanc, and also reportedly attracted celebrities before its closure six months ago.
Speciality property agent Colliers International said there had been strong interest in the pub - despite the initial offer-maker having changed their mind soon after.
Colliers International hotels director Peter Brunt said: "As expected, the Mason Arms was not on the market long before buyers came forward but they pulled out just before we exchanged.
"The Mason Arms just oozes character and appeal with its two huge fireplaces in the main bar area, heavily beamed ceilings and with lots of interesting nooks and crannies."
