Restaurant owner captures burglar

A restaurateur captured and held on to a burglar at his restaurant despite being kicked by the thief's accomplice, a London court heard last week.

Jose Trinanes, 58, proprietor of the Dino Gianna restaurant in Victoria, wrestled with Adam Creed, 21, who admitted burglary.

After hearing the account of the ordeal suffered by Trinanes and his wife, who at the time of the incident had been asleep in the basement bedroom of the restaurant, the magistrates committed Creed for sentence at Southwark Crown Court.

The magistrate said that his own powers of punishment - imposing a maximum of six months' imprisonment - were insufficient. "It was a very frightening experience for the victim," he said.
