Restaurateur in New York bans ‘yakking' on cellphones
A NEW York restaurateur has banned "inconsiderate" mobile phone users whose loud and incessant "yakking" has been annoying other diners.
In a newsletter sent out to the 50,000 customers of his four restaurants, Danny Meyer noted: "People who once prized privacy now seem to revel in sharing their business prowess and social life with a roomful of diners."
Three diners at his Union Square Café had conducted calls at the same table, he said, while a diner at his Tabla restaurant had talked on the phone and ordered dinner at the same time.
Meyer says he has been deluged with calls from approving customers and from other restaurateurs unsure how to tackle the cellphone scourge.
