Restaurateur pays out £23,000 for loud music

The owner of a London restaurant is out of pocket to the tune of nearly £23,000 because he ignored council demands to keep his music down.

Amir Aalam, owner of Fulham's Paparazzi Café, was fined £13,000 by West London Magistrates and ordered to pay the council's legal costs of £9,297.

He pleaded guilty to six counts of breaching a noise abatement notice.

Environmental health officers for Kensington & Chelsea said the noise readings of 90-95 decibels - equivalent to a pneumatic drill - were more appropriate to a nightclub than a restaurant.
