Roald Dahl museum wins best tourism project award

A museum dedicated to the life and work of Roald Dahl has won the British Guild of Travel Writers' (BGTW) award for the best UK tourism project.

The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, where the author lived and worked for nearly 40 years, was selected by BGTW members for the best UK project that is less than two-years-old and has tourism potential in addition to benefiting the local community and environment.

The museum, which opened last June, includes two galleries devoted to Dahl's life and work as well as a story centre.

Runners-up for the award were the Jersey Heritage Trust, which is restoring historic forts and follies into holiday homes, and steam ship SS Great Britain, which has been turned into a permanent museum piece.
