Rural pub installs vending machine for bread, milk and bacon
A licensee in Staffordshire has installed a vending machine outside his pub selling staples like bread, milk, eggs, bacon and butter.
Peter Wilkinson introduced the Belgian-made machine outside the Raddle Inn at Hollington after failing to get planning permission for a local shop in his pub.
The last shop in Hollington closed almost 20 years ago in 1992 and the nearest shop is three miles away.
"Pubs need to diversify," Wilkinson told the BBC. "I'm trying to follow Prince Charles and really make the pub the hub of the village. Different income streams is the only way pubs are going to survive in the future."
Prince Charles started encouraging rural pubs to diversify and support the local community through the Pub Is the Hub initaitive in 2001.
