Schlotzsky's to open in UK

Schlotzsky's Deli, a US fast food sandwich chain, could soon be making its debut in the UK. The first outlet is expected to open in London's West End within a year.

Texas-based franchise group Austin-Schlotzsky's has awarded a master licence for the UK to Zephyr Marketing, based in Richmond, London, whose associated company is London's largest Domino's pizza franchisee.

Zephyr is also looking for free-standing sites in out-of-town locations and within leisure complexes. It plans to develop at least 125 outlets over the next 15 years. Sub-franchisees will pay an initial ú10,000 to sell Schlotzsky's sandwiches, soups, salads and desserts.

Schlotzsky's has 400 outlets in the US, Mexico and Canada. Last year turnover was $110m.
