Share prices on the move as rumours grow

BID rumours over the sell-off of the Vaux Group sent shares soaring by 10.5%.

It is understood that pub group Enterprise Inns may look to buy Vaux's 660 tenanted pubs, while its Swallow Hotels have attracted interest from Whitbread, whose shares gained 7%.

Oriental Restaurants shares gained 16.3% to 313p following last week's annual results which saw a 30% profits increase and the promise of further expansion.

Shares in the Regal Hotel Group, which announced the sale of 10 hotels for £12.6m to the Old English Pub Company, edged up 2.4%.

Scottish & Newcastle also boosted a 2.4% rise after buy tips in the financial press. It is understood that the group may be making preliminary moves to buy Oppenheim's Northern Leisure, the nightclubs and bowling alleys group.

And as an investigation into former accounting procedures at Queens Moat Houses gets under way, its shares ended the week down 9.7% at 32.5p.
