S&N starts stand-alone lodge inns in Leeds

Scottish & Newcastle (S&N) is building the first of a line of stand-alone Lodge Inns as part of a £100m scheme to treble the number of its budget hotels to 60 over the next three years.

The existing 18 Lodge Inns, stretching from Aberdeen to Taunton, have all been sited next to S&N's pub-restaurants, such as Chef & Brewer and Old Orleans.

The first stand-alone lodge will be a 124-bedroom hotel on a 1.5-acre site in the City West business park in Leeds. It will open in May 1999.

The company is also seeking sites for stand-alone Lodge Inns in town centres and along main roads which will have between 40 and 120 bedrooms at the standard rate of £39 per night.

Lodge Inns will also continue to be built alongside S&N pubs.
