SSP training scheme aids unemployed

Select Service Partner (SSP), the Manchester-based airport caterer, is offering work experience and training to unemployed youngsters from the city's notorious Moss Side district.

Eight young people have been recruited into SSP's catering operation at Manchester Airport in a scheme run in conjunction with Moss Side and Hulme Community Development Trust.

The trainee chefs, who joined in March, are on a specially devised programme introducing them to food preparation. They are also taking part in day-release schemes to help them achieve National Vocational Qualifications.

SSP has now been presented with an award by Compass, its parent group, in recognition of the initiative.
