Starwood names new president
Starwood Hotels & Resorts has named Robert Cotter as its new president following Barry Sternlicht's decision to step down from the top job.
During his eight years as head of the company, Sternlicht has overseen the acquisition of assets like Westin Hotels and ITT Sheraton, created the W brand and helped transform Starwood into a major player, with more than 740 properties worldwide.
Cotter has been promoted from chief operating officer to the additional post, while Sternlicht will become executive chairman and reduce his day-to-day role at the company.
Cotter has been with the Starwood since 2000 and will retain his responsibility for hotel and timeshare operations.
