Stonegate acquires 15 Maclay Inns pubs

Pub company Stonegate has acquired 15 pubs from Scottish firm the Maclay Group, which went into administration in January this year.

The pubs include sites in St Andrews, Glasgow's West End and the Edinburgh university district.

The deal is the first acquisition for Stonegate, which has more than 600 pubs, since it disposed of a number of sites over the past two years.

It said it had reinvested the funds from the disposal of those sites into Maclay's 15 pubs.

Stonegate did not reveal how much it paid for the venues, but they were on the market with a combined asking price of £11.7m.

Chief executive Simon Longbottom said: "The prudent reviewing and planning of our estate has enabled Stonegate to invest in a high quality, predominantly freehold business that further strengthens our portfolio within Scotland. We look forward to welcoming the teams in situ into the Stonegate family."

Completion of the deal is expected in early July.
