Sudden death of college lecturer

Catering lecturer Rodger Wallace died suddenly of a heart attack on 20 December at the age of 53. He was section leader for catering at Banff and Buchan College in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire.

Wallace, who served a catering apprenticeship in the merchant navy, worked as a chef and manager with hotels, restaurants, hospitals, oil rigs and luxury yachts around the world before moving into training and education.

He became a lecturer at Rockingham College of Further Education in South Yorkshire in 1982, where he set up and ran the catering courses.

He joined Banff and Buchan College in 1984, setting up its new hospitality and catering section. He was responsible for the staff and the courses while continuing to lecture, help market the college, and play a role in the union and on the college's board of management.

Wallace leaves a widow, Elizabeth, and a 13-year-old daughter.
