Swansea gets a taste of salsa

Cafe Mambo, the first in a planned chain of Latin American restaurants, opens in Swansea at the end of the month.

Stephen Entwistle, who set up the Las Iguanas chain of Latin American restaurants for Metrodiner in Bristol and Cardiff, is behind the venture.

"Having spent the past six years setting up a Latin American-themed group, I really wanted to do it for myself," said Mr Entwistle.

"I suppose I am reinventing the wheel here, only better," he said of the 138-seat restaurant, which will feature Cuban and Caribbean dishes alongside other Latin American food.

Café Mambo (artist's impression), which has been refurbished at a cost of £110,000, has a full on-licence and opens all day serving meals, snacks, cocktails and an extensive range of coffees. Average spend per head in the evening will be £15-£20.

Mr Entwistle said plans were already under way for a second site, although he would not yet reveal its location.
