The ALMR announces 2014 Ops Awards winners
The Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR) has today announced the winners of its 2014 operation manager awards.
Known affectionately as the Ops Awards, they seek to celebrate staff within the licensed retail sector. Each prize was presented by ALMR chief executive Kate Nicholls, in front of an audience of over 1,100 AMLR members at the Association's Christmas luncheon at Old Billingsgate Market, London.
The winners were:
- Area manager of the year: Menesh Modhwadia, the New Inventive Pub Company
- Business development manager of the year: Darren King, Greene King Pub Partners
- Matthew Dyson, business development manager of Star Pubs and Bars, was also presented with the rising star of the year award.
The winners impressed the judges with their enthusiasm, experience and depth of knowledge.
Nick Bish, founder of the awards, explained that 2014 had been an especially competitive year, with entries of an increasingly high standard.
He said: "The operations managers awards are not simply a competition, they provide real personal development for the individuals and a boost for the industry as a whole. They confirm the importance of ops managers in general and shine a light on the best of the best amongst them."
Speaking about the 2014 winners, he added: "[Modhwadia and King] have shown outstanding management abilities and exceptional standards of professionalism throughout, and I am certain they both are destined for senior roles within the industry."
To be eligible to win, finalists must complete an entry paper, psychometric profiling, field assessment on a routine working day, and questioning from three panels of industry leaders.
The ALMR is a national trade body that seeks to represent the interests of licensed hospitality operators. Its members include pub, club, bar and casual dining operators, and currently run over 17,000 outlets with over 375,000 employees.
