The Caterer started partnering with industry specialist broker James Hallam last year to deliver a co-branded insurance and risk management product. Crucially, the best premiums will be available to businesses that can demonstrate good risk-management control. Members of the scheme will be supported by James Hallam in identifying and mitigating risks to protect their businesses and drive down their premiums.

Readers will be able to obtain free quotations from James Hallam on a range of products and services designed specifically for the needs of hospitality businesses.

The service offers:

• Insurance cover tailored for hotels, restaurants, member clubs, foodservice companies, pubs and bars. The policies have been designed for each industry sector, providing a wide level of cover as standard.

• A risk management grading system. All new clients will receive a free risk audit that evaluates the key risks within a business to help protect physical assets, reduce the frequency and severity of accidents and provide a safer environment for employees and guests while minimising the interruption of services. Crucially, the grading system will provide a rating and recommendations to help businesses achieve the best level of risk management they can. Those businesses achieving the highest grading will ultimately be offered the best premiums.

Speaking of the partnership, Mark Lewis, publisher of The Caterer, said: "Throughout its rich history The Caterer has always tried to equip operators with the knowledge, skills and tools they need to build better businesses. Offering professional services such as insurance and risk management feels like a positive next step."

Whether a business has a turnover of £500,000 or £500m, they will become part of a club and be recognised in that way, and so will be able to enjoy the considerable buying power of a large consortia.

Lewis continued: "The experienced team at James Hallam, who have been insuring the hospitality sector for over 30 years and already act for over 1,000 hospitality establishments, will administer the scheme. James Hallam's goal to improve the quality of risk management in the sector and its passion for our great industry, complements the values of The Caterer."

David Noble, director of hospitality and leisure at James Hallam, said: "I started working with the hospitality industry in 1989 when I began my insurance career. I soon discovered my passion for the sector, eventually making it my full-time job and extending my involvement through my association with Springboard, where I now sit very proudly as a trustee. During this time I have always read and respected The Caterer and it is clear that we have similar aspirations to make the industry a better place. I am confident that the new partnership will do so by improving risk management standards and maintaining long-term premium stability."
