The New Product Awards at ScotHot 2001

The New Product Awards at ScotHot 2001, at SECC in Glasgow, were judged today on the first day at the show. The standards was extremely high but the judges were unanimous in their decision.

Food & Drink

Gold: Brake Bros' frozen main courses and desserts - Louisiana vegetable Roast with Mango and Lime Sauce; Duck Brochettes; Organic Banana Cake; Vanilla and Toffee Honey Pot Ice Cream; Crème Bruleé Tartelette, and Salmon and Dill Lasagne.

The judges said: "Ideal for the pub market." "Achieved quality. No excuse for poor pub guide when products like these are available." "Liked Crème Bruleé tartelette, Vanilla and Toffee Honey Pot Ice Cream." "In fact, liked all of the offerings.

Silver: Total Beverage Solutions' Mocafe Iced Coffee Mixes.

The judges said: "A new product to market which is easy to use and will deliver high margins." "Wouldn't have thought the coffee market could be developed further, but this does it."

Bronze: Simon Howie Butchers' range of compression of Pork; Baby Leeks; Wild Mushrooms and Sage.

The judges said: "This butcher develops terrines and special cuts for top Scottish restaurants and is making its products available to a wider audience." "A well-presented range of top quality meats to chefs' standards."

Equipment & Services (including tableware & furnishings)

Gold: Foster's Premier Range of refrigeration cabinets.

The judges said: "This range is the result of a huge investment. The improved features show the company is obviously listening to what customers want." "Aesthetically pleasing." "You wouldn't want to hide these cabinets anyway.

Silver: Communique's Flash ‘n' Glow signs.

The judges said: "Only two weeks old, this product is easy to use and easy to reuse." "Very clever and cheap to buy." "Useful for large or small homes and ideal for pubs and small hotels."

"The enthusiasm of the salesman on the stand - passionate about his product - was good to see."

Bronze: Robert Coupe's R30 and R45 vertical cuter mixer.

The judges said: "Good improvements made on these machines." "Another example of a company that listens to its customers." "Tilling mechanism a great feature and the flexible, adjustable cuter are a bonus."
