Three pubs win share of £100,000 in Molson Coors competition

Three pubs have won a share of £100,000 to refurbish their business, courtesy of brewer Molson Coors, in conjunction with Britvic and Red Bull.

The three winning venues entered a competition through Molson Coors Independent On-Trade, the division that supplies more than 2,000 drinks products to independent pubs, clubs and restaurants.

The winning venues were:

â- The Kings Stanley Sports Club in Gloucestershire, a football and cricket club with a bar area for post-match and community use
â- The North Wingfield Miners Welfare Club in Chesterfield, a large working men's club

The management at all three pubs have collaborated closely with Molson Coors to decide what they will spend the prize money on, with each opting for different renovations and refurbishments to suit their business and attract more customers.

The prize money will go towards a new children's play area for the Shires Inn and a makeover of the inner furnishings for the North Wingfield Miners Club. The Kings Stanley Sports Club will spend the money on new changing facilities, allowing them to build a new function room.

Simon Cox, director of sales for the Independent On-Trade at Molson Coors, said: "In addition to investing heavily in our product range to help landlords and restaurant managers sell more, we are continuing to support the on-trade through these tough times with some much-needed business support. We are passionate about the pubs, clubs and bars that are the beating heart of local communities across Great Britain, and this business makeover fund will go some way to helping three of those venues to attract new customers and become more profitable."

Roger Bassett, club secretary of the Kings Stanley Sports Club, said of the prize: "For a number of years we have been considering enlarging and modifying our existing premises to grow our trade and to provide a more comfortable environment for our members, but costs have prevented us from achieving our ambitions. Winning a share of the makeover fund has now given us the opportunity to realise our objectives and we look forward to working with Molson Coors on this exciting project."

The promotion, which ran during the 2010 Christmas period, was open to Molson Coors' independent on-trade customers buying any case from its Red Bull or Britvic range, and offered up a share of £100,000 to three lucky venues.
