TV food star Adam Richman launches NFL game-day recipes with Sky

Adam Richman, US actor, food writer and star of TV shows Man v Food and BBQ Champ on ITV, has teamed up with Sky Business to create recipes inspired by its Sunday night broadcasts of the American National Football League (NFL).

The recipes, from Richman's new book Touchdown Tasty, have been created to help hotel bars and restaurants maximise sales and bookings during the Sunday night NFL games, and have been influenced by the growing interest in the sport in the UK.

The book includes dishes from Richman's previous book Straight Up Tasty, and also features a range of different beef sandwiches, nachos and other dishes inspired by the hand-held, easy-to-eat culinary traditions from across the US.

Richman has said that this represents an opportunity for establishments to mark themselves out from other bars by offering an original menu that is easily shared and that will encourage fans to linger before, during and after the games.

According to Sky, NFL is growing in popularity in the UK, with games continuing to sell out at Wembley Stadium, and more and more people tuning in to watch on Sunday nights.

Speaking to The Caterer, Richman said: "I'm extremely excited; these are some of my personal favourite game-day recipes. The passion that I've seen in the UK is amazing; I'm talking about people from Manchester supporting the Ravens, and people from Staines supporting the Bears. This is a great opportunity for hotels, restaurants, pubs and bars to become fan destinations."

David Rey, managing director of Sky Business, said: "NFL has never been so popular in the UK as it is now. The rapidly growing support for the game presents a huge opportunity for bars to identify themselves as a place where fans can go on a Sunday and watch the live action. We're delighted to have had Adam's knowledge and experience to hand when putting the cookbook together."

Sky is the only network to broadcast the NFL season, and has been awarded the rights for the next two years. There are over 100 live matches per season, and at least five games per week, plus the Pro Bowl and major Superbowl event on 7 February.

A wider interview with Richman, including more details on the recipes and the popularity of NFL in the UK, appears in the 27 November issue of The Caterer magazine.
